The OTDR Dummy Fiber establishes a crucial connection between the OTDR and the link under test. Its primary function is to clearly disclose the insertion loss and reflectance of the near-end connection. This is vital for accurately assessing the overall performance of the fiber optic link, especially when troubleshooting and verifying installation quality.
This dummy fiber isn't limited to a single use. It can also serve as a "Pulse Suppressor Cable," "Launch Cord/Lead," or "Receive Cable," and even functions as a "Fiber Ring," handling both launch and receive capabilities simultaneously. This versatility makes it an indispensable addition to any fiber optic testing toolkit.
When used in conjunction with an OTDR, the dummy fiber helps engineers measure the complete link loss of a fiber, providing a more holistic understanding of network performance.
